Original Awa zenzai using mocha kibi

名物 あわぜんざい

This is the head shop in Asakusa of Umezono, sweet parlor, selling popular Japanese-style confections. With the establishment in 1854, its origin started when opening a tea shop in a corner of Baion-In, an extension of Asakusa temple. The name of a store was derived from this history.

The founder invented the original awa zenzai which became popular among customers as Toyko's specialty. Since then, we have taken over the tradition as a sweet parlor. Mochi for Umezono's awa zenzai does use mocha kibi, not awa. Boiling and kneading mocha kibi, we mix it with steamed mocha and serve with smooth sweet red bean paste being boiled without haste. Feel free to taste our Japanese sweets with little tartness of mocha, sweet red bean paste, and flavor. In addition, Asakusa's head shop has a cafe space and a space for purchasing our sweets. Feel free to stop by at our shop after visiting Asakusa Temple.
